Uber, the new phone app which provides its customers black car service may cost you a fortune. Turns out it imposes its victims a surcharge during the times when drivers are short in supply. That means, during the weekend, at night or any other time when there is a shortage of drivers they will charge you a surcharge and notify only at the end of the ride.
That’s what happened in LA last week. A woman claims that to go 14 miles from West Los Angeles to Holywood her credit card was charged $357. That’s almost as much as 12 Taxi rides. Uber says she knew about the surcharges and simply ignored them. However, the lady says she was shocked to see the amount that was added.
The ironic part is that for this much money she could have rented a stretch limousine for at least a couple of hours.
It is not the first time Uber runs into trouble. This month a driver sued the app for keeping 20% drivers tip. More on that story here.
